Township of Essa 2024 Burn Permit

Please be advised that a service charge of 2.9% is applied by the service provider Bambora to cover processing costs for payments made using credit cards. If paying by credit card, your online purchase will appear as "Bambora Internet Service PSP" on your bank/credit card statement.

All burning shall be done so in accordance with the Township of Essa's Open Air Burn By-law 2015-92.
Burn Permits shall not be issued to a property in a settlement area with a clearance of less than 15 feet (5 metres) from any structure.
All Burn Permits expire on December 31st of each calendar year.

Please be advised that Online Burn Permits are not available for burns that are larger than 3 ft x 3 ft, as Fire Department Officials are required to conduct an inspection prior to a permit being obtained for a burn of this size. If you are planning on conducting a burn that is larger than 3 ft x 3 ft, please contact the Fire Department at 705-424-5828 to book your inspection.

Recreational/Camp Fire - Burn Rules - Fire shall be NO LARGER than 1.5 ft x 1.5 ft with flames NO HIGHER than 1.5 ft from the base of the fire. - Permitted in settlement and non-settlement areas ONLY WHERE CLEARANCES EXCEED 15 ft from any dwelling or structure, deck, shed, hedge, tree, fence, vehicular roadway or overhead wire. - Only permitted to burn from noon to midnight. - Only permitted to burn in a commercially manufactured or non-commercially manufactured non-combustible enclosed container that is not fueled by natural gas or propane, and may include chimineas, metal drums or tubs. - Only clean, dry wood is permitted to be burned.

Open Air - Burn Rules - Fire shall be NO LARGER than 3 ft x 3 ft in area with flames NO HIGHER than 3 ft from the base of the fire. - Permitted in settlement or non-settlement areas ONLY WHERE CLEARANCES EXCEED 33 feet from nearest dwelling or structure, deck, hedge, tree, fence, vehicular roadway or overhead wire. - Permitted to burn from dawn until dusk. - Only clean, dry seasoned wood, or brush, branches or twigs is permitted to be burned.
